「ふたたび」
ひたすらフォーカスを外して被写体を凝視するのが、Dozyシリーズの手法である。つまり、ピンボケしたファインダースクリーンを一所懸命に見つめながら撮影するのだ。なぜそうなったか？は諸説あるが、色々な人から「お人柄が現れていますね」と言う好評？を頂いた事に尽きると言っておこう。展示毎にそれぞれテーマらしい物はあるが、被写体や季節、あるいは地域を限定したりと言った程度で、出会った光景をモノクロネガフィルム中に固定するという基本的な撮影作業の連続であり、取り立てて変わった事は無い。ただ、アウトフォーカスする事によって、細部の描写が失われ、グラデーションが作るフォルムだけが示される。緻密な描写がリアリティを生み出す写真に取って、この手法は一種の反逆かも知れないが、細部が見えない分、フォルムや陰影が持つ本質に鑑賞者の主観で触れる事が出来るのでは無いか？と思う。
2006年のシリーズ初個展から、毎年新作を発表していたのだが、諸事情により2011年の展示「Jet Airliner」で中断する事になってしまった。今回の展示では、過去の作品に新作を加えて、「ふたたび」というタイトルを付けた。
“Futatabi – Again”
Staring single-mindedly on the subject, the focus is shifted away. Such is the methodology of the “Dozy” series. Simply put, it is a matter of intently seeking to capture that slightly blurred image in the finder screen.How did this happen? There are some theories, and a number of people have told me that my personality is being expressed. Whether this is praise or not I’m not sure, so I’ll just leave it at that. It can be said that every exhibition comes with a theme, whether focused on objects, a season, or things particular to a certain region. I continued my basic camerawork, capturing the scenes I came across forever onto monochrome negative film.
I discovered that when a photo was out of focus, the details of the scene was lost, and a gradation appears that only film can produce.
Perhaps my method is the opposite of the photograph that exudes reality with exquisite detail, but I feel that the unseen areas and the ambivalent forms and shadows can tap into the subjectivity of the viewer. From my first solo exhibition in 2006, I released new work every year until various circumstances forced me to end the series with the 2011 exhibition “Jet Airliner.”
This exhibition will feature older as well as more recent works, and has been titled “Futatabi – Again”
