村田兼一さんの写真家生活が２０周年を迎えるという。長く続いたような、あっという間にここまで来たような、どちらにしても感慨深いものがある。最初にお会いした頃には、正直このテンションをどこまで保ち続けることができるのかと思った。ヌード撮影という、繊細な神経の使い方を要求される作業を続けるのは本当に大変だからだ。でも、村田さんは見かけ以上にタフな写真作家だったようだ。じわじわと、しぶとく撮り続けた成果が、今回の個展で披露される。それらを「斜めにから観る」と、どんな眺めが見えてくるのかが楽しみだ。飯沢耕太郎(写真評論家)

Ken-ichi Murata has reached the 20-year mark in his career as a photographer. Whether coming to this point has felt like a long time or a mere instant, it has undoubtedly been a passionate ride. When I first met him, I have to be honest in saying I wondered how long a man of his demeanor could continue in this profession. It’s truly difficult to continue working in nude photography with the delicacy demanded by that genre. Apparently, Murata was a much tougher photographer than his physical appearance let on. His accomplishments, attained gradually through persistent continuity, will be showcased in this solo exhibition. He invites us to “view from an angle” indicating that there is something to be enjoyed any way you look at his work. Iizawa Kotaro (photography critic)
